Item Description

Here we have a beautiful matrix specimen of Kröhnkite, a very rare hydrated sodium copper sulfate mineral which was discovered in the 1870s by Johann Kröhnke a German chemist who first analyzed the material, while working in Chile. To this day, the finest known examples of the species are those from the type locality, the Chuquicamata Mine in Chile. This piece is a great example of this well-known and brilliantly colorful material featuring several, monoclinic crystals of Krohnkite measuring up to 7 mm, associated with dark green Atacamite. The intense turquoise blue color of the Kröhnkite is striking. A worthwhile specimen for anybody who collects rarities or minerals from the type locality.
From the collection of John Dagenais.
