Item Description

Krohnkite is a very rare hydrated sodium copper sulfate, and the finest known examples of the species are those from the type locality, the Chuquicamata Mine in Chile. This piece is a great example of this well-known and brilliantly colorful material featuring a good sized, thick, partial monoclinc prism of Krohnkite with good crystal form. If you look down the "c" axis of the specimen, you can see a diamond-shaped cross section, which indicates if this were a fully-terminated crystal, it would be a stunning example of the species based upon the thickness. The brilliant greenish-blue hue with intermixed matrix makes for a lovely two-tone effect. It's a solid and substantial specimen and very worthwhile for anybody who collects rarities.
