Item Description

The Kunzites from Afghanistan are some of the most impressive examples of crystallized Spodumene extant. This particular crystal is nearly a full 6 inches in length, and is not only highly lustrous (no etching whatsoever), but incredibly sharp, euhedral and GEM quality! It's a textbook example of the material. Additionally, I cannot find any damage of note and the base is actually crystallized (not broken), so it's a complete doubly-terminated "floater". The main termination has a slight area of incomplete growth where there is a small amount of either embedded Quartz or Feldspar, but the piece is in superb condition overall. I love how smooth, sharp and well-formed the faces are on this piece, it's just such a rarity for Kunzite as most crystals from places like Brazil or San Diego County are seriously etched or rather dull. This piece also shows decent pleochroism when rotated on each axis and viewed against good lighting, but due to the thin nature of the crystal, the color is not incredibly strong. Priced in the inventory at $2,800. From the collection of Raul Orellana. Specimen weight is 122 grams.
