Item Description

Kunzite is the varietal name for the gemmy pink Spodumenes first found in San Diego County, California. They were given the name in 1903 in honor of the world famous mineralogist / gemologist, George F. Kunz. Over 100 years later, specimens are still coming out, and some of the most iconic are those from the famous Oceanview Mine. This fantastic cabinet sized piece is a large, GEM quality, lustrous, eye-catching, classic, pinkish-lilac colored "floater" Kunzite crystal from the late 2000s at the Oceanview Mine. The WATER-CLEAR crystal is beautifully striated, and like all Spodumenes is pleochroic, showing a fantastic strong pinkish-purple color when viewed down the "c" axis. Classic, graceful surface etching can be seen on all sides, which is seen in virtually every crystal from the locality, along with a bit of included golden pocket clay, giving it a two-tone appearance. Weighs 134 grams. Priced at $3,500 in the inventory.
