Item Description

An old-time Pala District kunzite specimen from the 1960s or earlier from the Burton Jirgl Collection (circa 1960s). Five, gemmy, pretty pink, kunzite crystals to 1.3 cm are jauntily set in the top of montmorillonite clay matrix. The kunzites have a nice lilac color looking down the C-axis. Jirgl was probably hiding the true locality name for this piece, as there is no Ashley's Gem Mine in San Diego County. A classic and rare San Diego County pegmatite combination specimen.
