Item Description

A very impressive, robust, hefty, large, doubly-terminated, crystal of beautiful pink Spodumene Kunzite from this classic locality in Afghanistan. The piece is complete all the way around with the classic broad "sword" like termination on the top and a basal termination on the bottom. The while the underside of the crystal might look incomplete, it's all crystallized (I looked it over with a loupe) which is clearly the result of healing ("re-healing") making it a complete "floater". Due to the thick nature of the piece, it has a richer pink hue than most when viewing from the "a" axis. Obviously, like most Spodumenes, it shows an intense purplish-pink hue when viewed down the "c" axis with good backlighting. Internally, the crystal is gemmy, but not gem quality per se. Elegant, smooth striations can be seen on all the of the prism faces while the steep pyramidal face running down from the termination has just a slight amount of graceful etching, giving the crystal an almost other worldly appearance. The luster is good on all sides which plays nicely against the etching patterns and striations. Everybody is familiar with Kunzite, but there truly are only a few places on earth where good crystals are found in any quantity, and some of the best crystals to hit the market in the last 35+ years are those from Afghanistan. This hefty beast of a crystal weighs in just under a kilo at 931 grams. The piece comes with a custom lucite base for easy display. Priced at $8,000 in the inventory.
