Item Description

Classic, beautiful rich blue gemmy kyanite prisms, to 4.2 cm, are dramatically scattered, jackstraw-style on all sides of the laminated Paragonite mica schist matrix (an uncommon Na-member of the Mica Group) on this very showy and aesthetic small cabinet combination from this classic locale. There are also scattered small reddish-brown staurolite crystals, to 8 mm, as a nice accessory. The Smithsonian label says "Mt. Campione", which is in Como Province, Italy. The piece is undoubtedly from the famous Sponda Alp - Pizzo Forno area of Switzerland. Ex John Jago Trelawney Collection, a prominent California collector, who gifted about 4000 pieces to the Smithsonian in 1977. Ex Paul Heise and David Burgess Collections, for whom Burgessite is named.
