Item Description

Famous for classic calcite and barite specimens, the Pallaflat Iron Mine, opened in 1874 and was closed in 1914. Excellent barite specimens are RARE, compared to outstanding calcites. This is an impressive and sculptural large specimen of solid barite of uncommon style and color. Striking dense jackstraw clusters of parallel-growth, glassy, translucent tan blades compose this imposing hefty 360-degree prow-shaped piece. The crystals reach 5.0 cm. Complete all-around and in great shape for such a rich old-timer. Periphery wear, mostly on the back side and very few broken crystals are noted, but are certainly acceptable in the context of this old, rare and rich barite style. From an East Coast collection.
