Item Description

A RARE and impressive large borax crystal from the famous Boron open pit, teh worlds best locality for borate minerals in most people's opinion. The translucent gray crystal has silky lustre and is contacted on both ends. Borax often dehydrates to tincalconite, so a find a large unaltered example is indeed, RARE. Borax was the most abundant borate species and was the principal ore at this noted deposit, used for making soap and other products. Specimens of this quality came out in the 1960s or 1970s. Ex Bob Reynolds Collection, a well-known fossil and mineral expert and Curator of the San Bernardino County Museum. He passed away in 2020. RARE and excellent large borax from Boron that is simply unseen on the general market these days. Bob Reynolds was one of the last collections around in California, retainign a great suite of these fantastic rarities.
