Large Calcite (old classic)

Item Description

Densely intergrown, lustrous, translucent, nailhead spar calcite crystals with a light iron oxide tint form an impressive and sculptural large old-time 360-degree plate from Cumbria. The large crystals reach nearly 5.0 cm on this dramatic specimen. Complete all-around and in great shape, for all the crystal density and age of the piece. The interior is essentially pristine, with only a few scuffed edges and tips. The modest periphery wear is certainly acceptable in the context of this outstanding large calcite from an unknown iron mine. From an East Coast collection and comes with a century-old faded, torn and water-stained label.
