large Calcite on Calcite (classic locale)

Item Description

Cream-colored calcite complex rhombohedrons and scalenohedrons are aesthetically lined up on two rows on the impressive large matrix totally covered with an earlier generation of small, very glassy gem, colorless, dogtooth calcite crystals. The large crystals are glassy, lustrous and transparent to translucent. The large complex rhomb at the top is 4.5 cm, the large compound rhomb on the lower right is 4.2 cm and a barely visible doubly terminated scalenohedron on the left side is 3.2 cm long. All of the large calcites in the imposing frontal view are pristine. Ex Chad Dalrymple collection of Ardmore, Oklahoma who passed away in 1995. We recently obtained a portion of his collection. He acquired this impressive large calcite on calcite from a classic locale in the 1990s. Mass is 1719 grams or 3.8 pounds.
