Item Description

RARE and impressive large old-time 2-generation calcite from the famed Tri-State District. Classic lustrous, translucent, amber nailhead calcite rhombs, to 4.5 cm, richly and attractively cover the large mounded matrix. ONLY the prism faces are dramatically and preferentially sheathed in shimmering, densely stepped-growth, creamy calcite microcrystals. The brecciated chert and limestone matrix is a Tri-State classic. Ex Kay Robertson Collection # 504 and acquired at the 1957 Los Angeles Federation Show. Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien-Welt" November-December 2017). Possibly from the Picher Field portion of the Tri-State District in Ottawa Co, Oklahoma, rather than Missouri. See Figure 102, Page 239 of the excellent Mineralogical Record Tri-State District Special Issue, 2017, Vol. 48, No. 2.
