Item Description

VERY RARE and impressive large calcite from Thailand. Glassy, translucent light straw-yellow to oxide-included gray flattened nailhead rhombs, to 3.2 cm, with satin lustre faces completely cover the sculptural mounded specimen. Mineral specimens of ANY species are RARE from this less well-known province in Thailand. MINDAT lists over 40 species for the Province, but there are only four photos in the locality Photo Gallery with NO calcite photos. Interestingly and expected, only the straw-yellow rhombs fluoresce pink. Fluorescence in the gray rhombs is sequestered by iron content. Ex Chet Lemanski Collection and acquired from respected Asian dealer, Mountain Minerals International, in 1991.
