Item Description

Dramatically sculptural large 360-degree old-time calcite with highly unusual crystal form from the famous mines at Charcas. Stacked columns of rare style lustrous, translucent to transparent, tabular cream-colored rhombs with tapered edges form this surreal specimen. The large compound crystal at the crest is 6.2 cm and the striking large side crystal is 7.4 cm. Both are doubly terminated. Neon-orange fluorescence. Complete all-around and nearly pristine, with only one gently bruised crystal termination on the side. Ex Kay Robertson Collection # 1753 and acquired at the Compton Show in 1960. Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Welt" November-December 2017). Every turn presents a different perspective to this amazing, rare style Charcas calcite. Charcas is famous for pokerchip style calcites.
