Item Description

A impressive, old-time calcite specimen featuring very large crystals from the famous Stank Mine. The two, large, intergrown, modified scalenohedrons, to a large 6.3 cm, are glassy, transparent to translucent and have classic, light hematite tinting. The crystals are very jauntily set amidst a bid of smaller, light amber, dogtooth calcites. Complete all-around and very nearly pristine, with only the most trivial bruising to the tip of the large calcite. This is an outstanding CABINET specimen from this classic locale. Certainly over 100 years old, as this iron mine was active from only 1871 to 1901. Ex Robert Whitmore Collection. Fairly valued at $1250.
