Item Description

Old-time, large, doubly terminated barite crystals with striking phantoms are RARE from the famous iron mines at Frizington. This remarkable very glassy, highly lustrous and translucent, tabular crystal has impresssive chisel terminations with one end dramatically accented by the iron oxide-tinted phantoms. The sharp unusually frosted and etched prism edges strikingly frame the glassy centerline of the crystal. Complete all-around and in great shape, for an old-timer. The bit of noted termination edge and trivial prism edge scuffing and contacting lower on the back side are noted, but certainly have minimal impact to the overall outstanding quality and rarity of this very fine large crystal. Comes with an OLD faded and torn Wards label, probably dating to the early 1900s. Valued at $1750-2000 for size, form and rare quality.
