Item Description

A classic and outstanding CABINET combination specimen from the Sweetwater Mine and the Robert Whitmore Collection. A striking, 10.0 cm, doubly terminated, tapered, calcite scalenohedron is elegantly perched on sculptural limestone matrix. The highly lustrous, translucent crystal has a gemmy, amber, termination and sides surrounding the the grayish-white core. The termination also features a sharp phantom. The matrix is festooned on both sides with sharp, iridescent chalcopyrite crystals. The crystals on the backside are supremely iridescent, with spectacular magenta, peacock-blue and golden-yellow hues. Some of the best iridescence we have offered from any species from anywhere, at auction. The calcite is very nearly pristine, with only a gently contacted tip, where it contacted the roof of the vug. Superb combination material.
