Item Description

Montebrasite is an uncommon anhydrous Li-Al phosphate found in granite pegmatites. Some of the very finest examples of the species come from this famous pegmatite area and this is a superb example. This is a HUGE and impressive fishtail-twinned crystal with fine yellow-green color and three terminatioins. The very glassy and lustrous crystal has sharp faces all-around and striking stepped-growth on the twin faces, adding much pizzazz. The 2.0 cm doubly terminated, brown compound eosphorite crystal next to the albite at the base is a super and RARE accent. Complete all-around and nearly pristine, with only a bit of edge wear and one modestly bruised tip of the three terminations. RARE and outstanding older combination material, probably from 1970s or 80s finds. Valued at $2500 by the former dealer and worth $3000-4000 for size, rarity and combination quality.
