Item Description

Glassy, lustrous, colorless, transparent to translucent, blocky to tabular magnesite rhombs, to 4.3 cm on the diagonal, are richly and aesthetically clustered on the impressive and sculptural large solid matrix of smaller magnesite rhombs from the famous Pedra Preta pit at Brumado. Magnesite was the primary ore at Serra das Eguas and so , as you can imagine, large specimens are rare. Ex Chet Lemanski Collection and acquired in 1996. This is an uncommon, dramatic large solidly crystallized magnesite from the well-known locale. See the 1978 Mineralogical Record article in Vol. 9, No. 3. Mass is 1932 grams or 4.3 pounds.
