Item Description

A cute 2.9 cm bow of two intergrown calcite scalenohedrons is a fine highlight to this impressive, uncommon, very rich and sculptural large marcasite specimen from the famous Brushy Creek Mine. The striking grape-like clusters of botryoidal bronzy marcasite have high lustre. The major clusters in the interior are pristine and the bit of noted periphery wear is certainly acceptable in the context of this very rich and large specimen. Marcasite of this varietal is a rare accessory from this noted Pb-Zn mine, well-known for outstanding calcite and galena specimens. Specimens of this uncommon varietal came out in small quantities from the 1970s into the 1990s. Ex Art Soregaroli Collection. Mass is 1548 grams or 3.4 pounds. The piece displays well from either direction.
