This is a showy, dramatic and old LARGE CABINET, sliced and polished agate nodule from the ancient workings of quartz in Idar-Oberstein, used for centuries for carving and lapidary art. Still today, the world center of the highest end of the lapidary crafts is based in Idar-Oberstein, though stone to work on is now imported from elsewhere. This is a striking and beautiful nodule with intricate banding and a rainbow of colors, including blues, greens, yellows, reds and browns. The quartz crystal lined and filled vugs are an excellent accent. Ex an old museum, and James Zigras Collections. 4.9 pounds or 2.2 kilos. CLASSIC material rarely seen today, especially in this size!
