Item Description
Pumpellyite is a complex Ca-Al-silicate. It is RARE in such fine and rich large quartz specimens from the historic copper mines of Keweenaw County in Copper Country. A rich covering of gemmy and lustrous quartz points, to 2.2 cm, is accented with patches of green microcrystals. The back of the mounded plate is covered with green and brown Pumpellyite microcrystals with scattered small patches of olive-green epidote. Ex Al Kidwell Collection. Al was a well-known mineral collector and research geologist for Exxon. He passed away in 2008. The Phosphate Kidwellite is named for him. RARE old-time combination material in the richness and size.
