Item Description

A stunning, 13-cm bowtie dominates this dramatic large, grapefruit-sized rosette of pearlescent salmon-pink stilbite crystals from the classic Deccan trap locality in India. It is really much more 3-dimensional and larger than usual. Ed liked his Indian minerals to have significance beyond the common, and for its size, this qualifies. However, it also has a nice accent of at least 10 little yellow calcite rhombs, to 2.3 cm, and, something more rare - attached matrix in back. Most of these pop off or form as floaters on apophyllite, while this has real matrix behind it (forming a nice display base). Ex. Ed David Collection. Ed was Science Advisor to President Nixon and assembled several world-class collections. Comes with his custom baked-clay base. Fairly valued at $2000-2500 and worth it. Ed had a lvoe of fine Indian specimens and so this has great presence on its own merit, but also a good provenance! Old piece, from the 1990s or early 2000s
