Tsumeb produces few enough wulfenite relative to the quantity of other minerals it gave up over nearly 100 years in operation, and especially large specimens are uncommon - and always have been. RARE, very uncommon large wulfenite specimen from renowned, extinct Tsumeb. About 44, striking, lustrous, translucent, glassy, color-zoned, stout tabular prisms with sharp beveled edges are nicely clustered on the impressive, sculptural sulfide matrix. The prism faces are etched and the beveled faces are glassy smooth, adding contrast and interest. The large wulfenite near the center edge of the cluster is 2.2 cm wide. The many crystals are essentially pristine, with trivial bruising noted to only 2 prisms. One edge has been sawed to enhance the display of the wulfies. Mass is 1548 grams or 3.4 pounds. A dramatic and important large Tsumeb specimen with many crystals. Wulfenite specimens of this size, quality and richness are rare and highly desirable from here. Valued $4000-plus.
