Item Description

Rare, old-time Lazurite from this less well-known Russian area for the material. Deep navy blue colored streakd seams can be seen on the display side of this old time specimen. This piece has been polished on the front to better display the color and form of the Lazurite. It should be noted that Lazurite / Lapis Lazuli is no longer considered a separate species, but a variety of hauyne, a Sodalite Group member. Not very showy, but remains a rare, old, highly representative example of the material and locale. Ex Kay Robertson Collection (#3677). Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Welt" November-December 2017).
