There are a few mineral species that sit atop the hierarchy of minerals in terms of rarity and beauty. I think most people would agree that Legrandite is certainly high up on the list. It's definitely one of the most sought after species in the world, as superb examples are only found at the famous Ojuela Mine, and they are unquestionably some of the most recognizable classics from any locality. The superb examples of Legrandite from this mine stand as one of the greatest minerals discoveries in history. I would say that one of the most legendary mineral specimens extant is the famous "Aztec Sun" Legrandite from Ojuela, not only the best Legrandite in the world, but maybe one of the top 10 mineral specimens ever found, especially when the rarity of the species is taken into consideration. Legrandite is a highly sought after zinc arsenate species, and this in a wonderful thumbnail sized piece of this desirable rarity. The piece features a few rich golden-yellow color "sprays" of Legrandite perched atop Limonite matrix. The largest crystal measures about 7 mm, but when you view them up close, you can see the fantastic crystal morphology and dazzling color. Good specimens of Legrandite are seldom seen on the market, and I don't have to tell you that fine specimens sell for huge money these days. It's hard to get your hands on a showy matrix display specimen of Legrandite from this locality, and this little beauty would make a fine addition to any collection, especially if you like to view pieces under the microscope.
