Legrandite (rare classic material)

Legrandite ranks among the most sought after mineral species in the world, and the famous pieces from the Ojuela Mine in Mexico are the finest examples ever found. Here we have a nice small cabinet sized specimen of this desirable rare zinc arsenate species featuring a 2.1 cm "spray" consisting of sharp, lustrous, glowing yellow color, monoclinic prismatic crystals of Legrandite sitting on Limonite matrix. The glowing yellow color is iconic for the species, and stands out so beautifully against the matrix. Unfortunately, the individual Legrandite crystals are not fully terminated, because they grew against the edge of the pocket, and was contacted when the piece was collected underground. The centers of the prisms however are in fine shape with a bright luster and a good amount of internal gemminess. Good specimens of Legrandite are seldom seen on the market, and I don't have to tell you that fine specimens sell for huge money these days. Legrandite is really known from only a handful of localities in good quality specimens, but none of them are anywhere as significant as those from Mapimi, so don't miss out on this classic specimen from this world famous locality.
