Item Description

A hard to find crystallized specimen of the VERY rare zinc arsenate, Leitite with the equally rare lead iron arsenite species, Ludlockite - both from the type locality, the famous Tsumeb Mine. Leitite mineral is only found in a few places in the world, most famously from Tsumeb, and Ludlockite is only found in about ten world localities, but everybody immediately associates it with Tsumeb. This piece features classic Leitite with a flattened, prismatic monoclinic form with almost a semi-layered appearance and beautiful gemmy colorless interior. The tuft of orange-bronze colored Ludlockite flaring off the side makes for a great touch. Leitite was named after Luis Antonio Bravo Teixeira-Leite, who first noted the material. Ludlockite was named after mineral dealers Frederick (Rick) Ludlow Smith and Charles (Charlie) Locke Key: Ludlow + Locke = Ludlockite. Specimens from Tsumeb are the most desirable for collectors, and very few are seen on the market today. From the collection of Richard A. Kosnar (the namesake for Kosnarite) who personally acquired it from Charlie Key. If you collect rarities, Tsumeb minerals or even worldwide arsenates, don't miss out on this great association piece, that is nearly impossible to obtain in today's market.
