Item Description

Tsumeb is one of those magic words in the mineral world. It evokes visions of some of the finest specimens ever found, ranging from well-known common species to some of the rarest minerals on earth. This mine is regarded by many as the most prolific and important locality in history, for good reason. The Cerussites from Tsumeb are regarded among the finest in the world for the size, quality and beautiful crystallization. This beautiful, sculptural display specimen features a fantastic, three-dimensional, highly reticulated multi-twinned group of smoky colored Cerussite growing in multiple directions, which plays host to a partial coating of brilliant, deep blue colored crystals of the rare lead copper sulfate, Linarite. This association is notably rare in my experience from Tsumeb, and this particular specimen is arguably the most aesthetic and highly displayable example we've had to offer. The piece is in very good condition all around, though there are a few contacted spots on the Cerussite twins. The minimal roughness is more than forgivable to me, as it's a truly impressive display quality specimen from this prestigious locality. The photos and video don't do enough to convey the overall beauty and significance of this classic, eye-catching, and rare specimen but take my word for it, this is great for what it is. Priced in the inventory at $5,500 for the size, quality, aesthetics and the top-shelf locality. From the collection of Robert (Bob) Reynolds (#RR0763) who passed in August of 2020. Bob was a well-known fossil and mineral expert and former Curator of Earth Sciences at the San Bernardino County Museum in California. The rare phyllomanganate-chromate species Reynoldsite was named in his honor in 2011.
