Item Description

Rhodizite is the ultra rare potassium-dominant analogue of londonite (cesium-dominant), members of the Londonite-Rhodizite Series of complex borates. Londonite-Rhodizite specimens are among the rarest and most desirable species found in Madagascar. Two gemmy to translucent, fine yellow-green color crystals are jauntily set on the mounded matrix. The upper 1.4 cm gemmy/translucent crystal is complete and pristine. The 1.3 cm, gemmy, sharp, lower crystal is nearly complete with only a bit of bruising in the inner end. Deep red rubellite tourmaline crystal sections are a dramatic and colorful accent in the feldspar and quartz matrix. Ex Kay Robertson Collection # 8275. Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record). Showy, excellent and highly representative example of this very rare species in a colorful combination.
