Item Description

A sharp, 1.7 cm, doubly terminated lorenzenite crystal with chocolate-brown color is very aesthetically set on matrix on this excellent specimen from this famous alkaline massif. It is well-known for many exotic and rare mineral species, for which it is the Type Locality. Lorenzenite is a rare silicate with Titanium. Lustrous black needles of an unknown species in the matrix add character and contrast. Ex Kay Robertson Collection # 10274 and collected in 1931, according to her label, making it a OLD rarity. Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record).
