Item Description

Citrine is a well know yellow variety of Quartz. It is also one of the birthstones for November. Even inexperienced collectors are probably familiar with Citrine, but I think a lot of them would be surprised to know that a good majority of the Citrine gems that one encounters on the market has been heated to turn them yellow. There's actually not a lot of natural yellow Citrine in the world, and several decades ago somebody discovered that you can heat natural purple Amethyst gems (of which there is an abundance from various world localities) and with the right combination of temperature and time, you'll produce attractive yellow Citrine gems. Now there are hundreds of thousands of heated Citrine gems on the market, and they are completely accepted by dealers and collectors, so long as the buyer knows they are buying a heated stone. You'll see heated Citrines stones on the market that range from a soft yellow hue to a rich orange-red color (called Madeira Citrine). This stone is on the darker end of the spectrum, as it shows a rich orange-red color. It is virtually eye clean with a "Trillion Brilliant" cut.
