Item Description

Mesitite is the antique name for the iron-rich variety of Magnesite. It is RARE from the Traversella Mine, a classic Italian locale. This very showy and rich 3-sided combination old-timer is highlighted by the well-placed 2.3 cm, lustrous, translucent, rounded magnesite with a razor tapered edge. The sculptural 3-dimensional piece is covered with striking sprays of quartz points, smaller magnesites and accenting clusters of snow-white dolomite rhombs. This old-timer has a fine provenance, having been in the British Museum Collection. Ex Kay Robertson Collection # 8992 and acquired from the Lidstrom's at the 1980 Tucson Show. Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record) and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien-Welt" November-December 2017). Choice, rare old-time combination material from this locale with a fine provenance.
