Item Description

Magnesite is a relatively rare carbonate in the world except for the Brumado mine in Brazil. This material was originally mined and used as flux in Brazil for making steel believe it or not! The entire mountain in which the mine is located is just loaded with tons upon tons of large, gem grade crystals of Magnesite. Cut stones of this material are actually very attractive due to the birefringence which is starkly obvious in smaller stones. There truly is only one mine in the world that produces gems of this material, and most collectors probably don't have one in their collections, ESPECIALLY IN THIS COLOR. This stone is very slightly included with an "Emerald" cut, and is a good size gem of this material. The most important aspect of this gem is the beautiful smoky color that it exhibits, as the large percentage of these gems are colorless! This is a rare gem that is not often seen for sale in today's market. Do not miss out on this one.
