Malachite coating Calcite ps. Glauberite (Post-mining)

Item Description

A really pretty example of these specimen from an old copper mine, which were found in several instances coated with "man derived malachite" that grew on the glauberites from the mine runoff. While some have been found in the mine itself, legend says that if you leave some glauberites in a pile in the mine for a year or two, you might go back later and find them varying degrees of malachite-coated....not sure where the truth is on that, but the color is definitely due to postmining fluids running through this deposit. Still, an interesting artifact of what happens to minerals in a mine when man gives big tunnels for water to flow through! A fine piece, complete all around.
