Item Description

A very fine and rich old-time pseudomorph from famed Tsumeb. Malachite has replaced a dense sculptural mounded cluster of tabular tapered azurite crystals. The compound crystals reach about 2.8 cm on the top on this very showy two-sided piece. The scattered bruising is certainly acceptable in the context of this excellent old-timer, probably from the Upper Oxidized Zone. Ex Kay Robertson Collection # 1846 and acquired from Sol Shale in January, 1961. It comes with an older German label. Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Welt" November-December 2017). Classic and excellent malachite after azurite from Tsumeb. Dense malachite at 277 grams mass.
