Item Description

The Tsumeb Mine is famous for a myriad of mineral species, including some gorgeous Azurite / Malachite specimens. This piece is a textbook, pristine, perfectly preserved single crystal of Azurite that has been completely pseudomorphed to Malachite from this prestigious locality. Don't think of this only in terms of a pseudomorph, but rather it was a 2.5 inch+ crystal of Azurite at one point(!), which is large for the species and locality. You can see every bit of the piece is now chatoyant forest green Malachite and it is complete and undamaged on every side. Specimens of this quality and size are rare on the market, and with the price of good Tsumeb pieces increasingly almost daily it seems, this is a significant and important piece of this historic material. The piece was priced in the inventory at $1,800 for the size, quality and overall desirability of the material. From the collection of Brian Kosnar.
