Item Description

There are several localities in the Kaokoveld Plateau of Namibia where Malachite has been reported, but this is the first piece I've seen labeled as coming from Kandesi. The crystals on this specimen are incredibly SHARP and LUSTROUS, with a wet vitreous luster and incredibly well-formed faces. The largest Malachite measures 1.8 cm long. These are what some would call "Primary Malachite", essentially they are crystals that did not form as a result of alteration from Azurite. The matrix is massive/uncrystallized smoky colored Quartz, but near the center it opened into a vug lined with tiny sparkling crystals of Quartz, and if you look near the bottom of the specimen you'll see some micro green Dioptase and a bit of blue Shattuckite. A gorgeous specimen both in terms of quality and overall visual appearance. You don't see Malachite as good as this from the vast majority of world localities. Priced in the inventory at $1,800. From the collection of Gerry Morvell.
