Item Description

A very rare seen specimen of the highly sought after Malachites from the Bagdad Mine. A few dozen botyroidal Malachites measuring up to 4 mm cover the underlying porphyry matrix. The "balls" have an olive-green hue on the exterior, but some of the contacted spheres show more of a bluish-green hue inside. This particular style of Malachite from the Bagdad Mine is nearly impossible to find on the market, and you can only get them in old collections. This piece probably dates to the 1950s or 1960s. Ex Kay Robertson Collection (#4244). Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Welt" November-December 2017).
