Item Description

A showy and aesthetic specimen featuring a few radial groups of dark green lustrous Malachite sitting on a few gemmy to translucent scalenohedral Calcite crystals measuring up to 4.4 cm on minor matrix. The label accompanying the piece refers to these crystals as "Tarnowitzite", but Aragonite is not reported from Broken Hill, so I'm assuming these are Calcites. Specimens of Malachite from Broken Hill are very hard to find on the market, especially showy display pieces like this. Ex Kay Robertson Collection (#13101). Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Velt" November-December 2017).
