Item Description

An odd specimen from an undisclosed locality in Mexico featuring acicular forest green Malachite "needles" which are coating small well-formed pseudomorphs / "casts" of Limonite replacing tetrahedral Chalcopyrite crystals. Interestingly, some of the "casts" are broken and show a stark red color internally to create a lovely color contrast against the Malachite. The piece looks BEAUTIFUL up close and I've honestly never seen anything quite like it. If you collect secondary ore minerals, replacement / pseudomorphs or minerals of Mexico, don't miss out on this attractive and unusual piece that was probably from an isolated discovery. Ex Kay Robertson Collection (#9346). Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Welt" November-December 2017).
