Item Description

An excellent aesthetic, old-time specimen of highly lustrous, striated, jet-black manganite richly and attractively filled a large vug atop sculptural, massive manganite matrix. This is NOT just a "black rock" by any means. It displays very dramatically and impressively. The crystals reach 1.0 cm. These old pieces came out in about 1886-1888 (per Bancroft''s book). The backside even has a bit of barite. Superb crystals, good size, and high luster make this an excellent and affordable small cabinet, valued about $1000. Ex Harvard Collection.
