Item Description

An EXCELLENT, AESTHETIC and OLD-TIME manganite and barite specimen from the famed Ilfeld area of Germany. Two, superbly splendent, black manganite crystals, to 3.8 cm, are beautifully perched in vug accented with barite atop a massive manganite matrix. I particularly like the way the two large, isolated crystals oppose each other. The large crystal is contacted on one end, and the upright crystal has a pristine termination. This is NOT just a "black rock" by any means. It displays very dramatically and impressively. These old pieces came out in about 1886-1888 (per Bancroft''s book). CLASSIC material.
