Item Description

Martite is the name given to hematite pseudomorphs after magnetite. Sharp magnetite octahedrons are PARTIALLY replaced by hematite on this sculptural small cabinet of aesthetically intergrown crystals. Many faces are bright metallic-gray, while others have a matte finish from being partially pseudomorphed. The protruding octo on the right side is 2.4 cm and the very sharp, lustrous and pristine doubly terminated octo on the left side is 2.5 cm. The specimen is moderately magnetic, including the matrix. This is a classic and excellent specimen from this less well-known extinct Utah iron deposit.
