Sharp magnetite octahedrons are PARTIALLY replaced by hematite on this sculptural small cabinet of aesthetically intergrown crystals. Martite is the name given to hematite pseudomorphs after magnetite. The crystal faces are moderately lustrous metallic-gray with subtle hints of brick-red coatings. The prominent octo is 2.4 cm tall and 3.0 cm on the diagonal. The specimen is moderately magnetic, including the matrix. This is a classic and excellent specimen from this less well-known extinct Utah iron deposit. From an East Coast collection.
