Item Description

A fantastic, showy and eye-catching specimen of Metahewettite from the Ambrosia Lake Mining in New Mexico. Fine quality, acicular, reddish-brown colored "needles" of Metahewettite have formed "tuft"-like groups are sitting beautifully atop host rock matrix. This species almost reminds one of Ludlockite in terms of color and habit, but chemically they're quite dissimilar as Metahewettite is a hydrated calcium vanadate and Ludlockite is a lead iron arsenate. This is certainly one of if not THE best specimen of Metahewettite that we've ever had to offer. It's incredibly hard to find good matrix specimens with crystals that you can clearly see with the naked eye, and this one is aesthetic to boot! A MUST HAVE for any rarities collector or a fan of minerals of New Mexico. Ex Kay Robertson Collection (#5311). Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Welt" November-December 2017).
