Item Description

Starting around 2002, the pegmatites around the town of Konso in Ethiopia were producing some really fine quality Amazonite specimens. Even though Amazonite is well-known in today's the market, it's very hard to find any good quality specimens outside of the Colorado material. I would argue that in some cases, the pieces from the Konso area are on par with pieces from Colorado in terms of color, quality and size. This piece features some fine quality crystals with a wonderful blue-green hue, along with notably sharp well-formed faces and very good luster. The crystals are sitting on a bit of white Albite matrix with minor Smoky Quartz mixed in. The Amazonite crystals are actually slightly translucent when backlit, which is not common for this blue-green variety of Microcline. Good quality and the piece displays nicely as you can see. From the worldwide collection of David Burgess (1951-2016). David was a prolific species collector from Newington, Connecticut, and the namesake for the extremely rare cobalt arsenate species Burgessite, which he discovered.
