Item Description

Of all the granitic pegmatite localities in Brazil, you'll find a wide range of minerals, but Amazonite is not commonly seen. Even though Microcline is a common feldspar species, the blue-green variety is not often found in most pegmatites. Amazonite is probably best known from the Pikes Peak Region of Colorado historically, and even from Ethiopia in contemporary times, but the pieces from the Santa Maria de Itabira mine hold their own in terms of color and crystallization, though they are seldom seen on the market. This piece features a group of sharp, well-formed, lustrous, blocky, strong blue-green colored crystal of Amazonite with minor attached white Albite (var: Cleavelandite) on the back. The front of the specimen is in good shape, but the back of the piece is contacted where it was separated from the pocket wall. If you're a feldspar collector or a fan of Brazilian minerals, this is a cool locality specimen to add to your collection.
