Item Description

A classic rendition of Mimetite from Tsumeb presenting three interpenetrating crystals, each tapering to a spire reminiscent of a gothic cathedral. The translucent to transparent, honey-yellow crystals display sub-adamantine luster with subtle striae on the prism faces. The trio of crystals are very gemmy, display beautiful color, all characterized by pyramidal termination at the tip. The largest crystal has a slight ding at the tip. There is just a touch of matrix at the base for aesthetics. This was acquired from Clive Queit, the noted South African collector, during the heyday of mining at Tsumeb in the early 1980s. Mr. Queit would meet the miners at shift change and purchase specimens squirreled away in the miner's boots and clothes. This specimen is about as mine-direct as one can get, and after forty years no less. Ex. Clive Queit collection.
