Item Description

Striking diverging sprays of variably-sized, acicular, butterscotch-colored mimetite crystals form an impressive and sculptural solid 360-degree crust from famed Tsumeb. The crystals reach 2.5 cm and the vug at one end adds real pizzazz. The specimen is peppered clusters of tiny, gemmy crystals of green copper oxides, either Arsentsumebite, Duftite or Mottramite, which adds color and contrast. Scattered broken crystals have negligible impact on this very rich old-timer. Ex Kay Robertson Collection # 7319 and acquired from the Lidstrom's at the famous 1974 Lincoln, Nebraska Show. Previously in the Earl Shaw Collection, a California dealer in the 1930s to 60s. See: https://mineralogicalrecord.com/labels.asp?colid=1461. Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Welt" November-December 2017). Very fine and rich old-time Tsumeb mimetite, probably from the Upper Oxidized Zone.
